This course is an orientation to the School of Library and Information Science MLIS program and to librarianship in general.
The main assignment in this course was a short paper. This paper was designed to introduce students to a type of librarianship and allow exploration into a specific type of interest. In this paper, I explored Archival Librarianship and I found it was fascinating. Many aspects of this field can also be applied to other forms of librarianship. Instructions were as follows:
"Choose a type of librarianship of interest: academic, public, school, or archival. Begin with an appropriate quote and an introductory paragraph or two that defines and provides some information about a specific type of librarianship (reference sources and/or Web sites are appropriate for this). Name and provide information on two related professional organizations, one at the national level and one at the state level. Search the professional literature and the Web for information on best practices, standards, or competencies. Locate at least two scholarly, peer-reviewed journals related to this area of librarianship; discuss some features of each journal."
