LIS 668 LIS Research Methods
This course is a survey of scientific research methods and their application to the field of library and information science.
One of the main assignments in this course was a journal comparison paper. This assignment gave students the opportunity to do further research on academic journals and see the differences between disciplines. This will help me in my future career to be able to search databases well and discern quality publications. Instructions were as follows:
"Using the LIS-specific databases available to you in the University Libraries’ online databases (e.g., Library and Information Source), perform a database search for articles on an LIS-related subject of interest to you. Be sure to limit your search option to “peer reviewed” so that only peer-reviewed journals appear in your search results. Choose one (1) scholarly, peer-reviewed LIS journal (not a professional journal) of interest to you. Check the journal’s website for more information about the journal, its publisher, and its submission guidelines, etc. Locate the journal’s listing in at least one of the following directories: Cabell’s Directories http://libguides.lib.usm.edu/article_database_list_c Ulrichsweb Global Serials Directory http://libguides.lib.usm.edu/article_database_list_u."
