LIS 645 Digital Libraries

This course is a comprehensive overview of digital libraries from conceptual understandings of digital libraries to crucial issues in design, management, and evaluation.

The main assignment in this course was to create our own digital collection of 20 items with open source Omeka.net and write a reflection paper on the process. I chose to create a digital archive of my semi-precious stone collection. This assignment gave experience digitizing and dealing with born-digital information. Digitization is becoming more prevalent in many fields especially library science. Knowing the process of digitization will be useful in the future when I need to do this with other documents.
