LIS 505 Catalog and Classification

This course is an overview of principles and methods of cataloging and classifying library materials. It provides practice in bibliographical description and subject analysis.

 

The main assignment in this course was a research paper. This paper was designed to evaluate our understanding of a particular topic in cataloging. I chose FRBR or Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records and how they effect cataloging now. This understanding gives me a better idea how the library catalog can work and the organization behind it. Instructions were as follows:

 

"Write a research paper on one of the topics listed below. This paper can either be considered as an introductory survey of the topic or a more in-depth consideration of a particular aspect of the topic. "
