LIS 501 Reference and Information Services
This course is an introduction to reference materials, services, activities, and functions, as well as methods for locating information.
The main assignment in this course was a pathfinder. This assignment teaches students how to find and evaluate a variety of sources on a particular topic. These skills are invaluable as a library professional to ensure accurate pertinent information is given to library patrons. Instructions were as follows:
"Locate ten reference sources (5 print and 5 online) to use in an annotated reference bibliography pathfinder built around the topic of your choice. Write a short annotation (120 words) with a complete citation for each source you are using. The objective of this assignment is for the student to demonstrate an ability to find,evaluate, and select a representative and complementary reference sources within a particular subject."
